A Fun-Filled Retro Night
By Kassidy Murray and Erik Nijkamp
On February tenth, in the gym/cafeteria, when you walked through the doors all you saw was laughter, dance, and a whole bunch of disco. Everyone changed! Mr. Davis turned into Groovy Greg Davis and Mr. Holmes turned into Vanilla Holmes, it was a fun filled night just for your fun and entertainment. Almost all of Gateway attended Wonderful Retro Night. Student Council ran out of EVERYTHING because so many people came! We would like to thank Gateway G.I.V.E., student council, and all the staff for making Retro Night a night to remember.

Mueller State Park
By Bella Carver and Katelyn Zeller
On Tuesday, September 27th, 2011, Mrs. Richardson's 5th grade class went to Mueller State Park. There we went on two hikes, the Lost Pond hike and Wapiti Trail, and did lots of fun activities. The reason we went on the trip was 1) it was fun, and 2) we had learned about the animals and other stuff in class. One fun thing we did was identify animal tracks like their footprints. Mueller was a really fun field trip. I hope you can go to Mueller State Park some time.

5th Graders Invade Local Business!
by Lou Levy and Julian Vega
On Monday, October 3rd, 2011, Mrs. Richardson's 5th grade class went to the Pikes Peak Rock Shop. We walked there from Gateway Elementary. Once we got there, Jeff, the shop owner, showed us around the wholesale shop. Mrs. Kitson, the other 5th grade teacher, met Jeff at a rock and mineral show in Denver. At the tour, Jeff showed us interesting rocks and fossils that he got from Brazil and Madagascar. It was an interesting experience for the 5th grade.

Our Surprise Visitor
by Madison Dunlevy-McDaniel and Riley Truax
Hello, fifth grade page viewers. A while ago we got a surprise visitor. His name was Ranger Wollin. He set up a game for us to play in the Gateway School library. He was from the Florissant Fossil Beds. He came to talk about elevations and what animals live in which life zones. Bella, Erik, and I were in a play where Erik was the gramma grass, I was a beaver, and Bella was a deer. Mrs. Richardson's and Mrs. Kitson's classes did a great job! Ranger Wollin was great, and you should check out our pictures!
